But try Whedon’s “Dollhouse” if you can: still in its first (only?) season, but post-episode 6 all sorts of twists and revelations are shown; it’s fast becoming my favourite US genre show (now that Galactica is over).

Your point about “no longer watching new series until they’ve proven themselves” also applies to book trilogies: I’ve become wary of starting a “first in a series…” book just in case subsequent volumes don’t measure up or don’t get published.
